It’s nearly 5 P.M., Saturday the fifth of May, 2012, and I’m sitting in a dark room with a hundred other people around me and two of my closest friends on either side. I sift through my collectible popcorn bucket and, realizing it’s long since emptied, settle for my soda instead. The music swells, I take a swig, the scene transitions, and with that, I depart for the restroom. This is not the first, nor the second, but the sixth time I’ve done so in the past two hours.

Shazam! Super movie-reviewer dude powers activated!
“Shazam!” is the latest DC superhero movie, starring Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, and… others. After young foster child Billy Batson (Asher Angel) is granted mythical Tom Hanks in “BIG” powers by an ancient wizard, he finds himself on a journey of self-discovery and superhero misadventures and hey, we’ve got another pretty solid entry into DC’s cinematic offering!
So… Captain Marvel hit theaters a month ago.
Sorry, let me try that in a more headline-friendly voice. A month ago, Captain Marvel blasted into theaters! Much better. "This wasn't a limited edition, Mama. It was an origin story." - Elijah Price
So this is strange . . . finals week here at UND is over and I'm actually still alive. I genuinely couldn't have predicted that. But seeing as I haven't shuffled off this mortal coil just yet, it's probably as good a time as any to offer up my two cents on one particular trailer that came out last week - Alita: Battle Angel.
Just kidding! We're gonna talk about the Avengers, guys! This probably won't be a particularly long post . . . just something kinda chill, you feel? So crack open a cold one, grab that acoustic guitar, and lets take a look at first trailer for Avengers: Endgame. "I just saw the ad. I thought it looked fun." - Peter
Welcome back, everyone! Today on Everyman Film Reviews we're talking Deadpool 2: the follow-up the wildly successful superhero comedy of 2016. Does it live up to the original? How do Deadpool's "X-Force" look? And what about the Dubstep? Find out below!
"It was the only way" - Dr. Steven Strange
Well here we are. A decade of cinematic history has been leading to this: a movie that has been hyped up since Thanos first reared his ugly head in the post-credit stinger of The Avengers. That's right, Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters this weekend, and of course, I just had to see it opening night. So today we're talking non-spoilers, as broadly & briefly as I can, and then we'll get into the nitty-gritty of just what the F#CK did I watch?! Let's do it.
*P.S: While I will be trying to provide as much evenhanded criticism of this film as I can, I really have no objectivity here. You've been warned!* *P.P.S: I'm finishing up this review really late because, finals week guys. Whatcha gonna do?* Welcome back, everyone! You're reading Everyman Film Reviews, and we're just a few days away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War. No biggie, it's not like I've been waiting for this movie since I was, oh . . . 12 years old? But anyway - over the past month or so I've taken it upon myself to prepare for Infinity War by rewatching all 18 installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. Talk about commitment, right? So today I'd like to give you a brief rundown on each film and where I think they rank in the MCU! That's right - it's The Great Marvel Rewatch of 2018! (trademark pending) Now, I just have one question:
"It is hard to be both a good man and a King." - T'Chaka
Welcome back, everyone! After a brief hiatus, EFR is diving headfirst into the 2018 movie year with Black Panther, the next highly-anticipated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And lemme tell ya, this movie has everything. Action! Political drama! References to really outdated memes! But I get ahead of myself. Let's do it!
*FYI*: I started writing this review within a few days of seeing Black Panther, but then a sh!tload of extra course work & other real-life things got in the way of me actually finishing it. And now that I'm finally at the spoilers section, I can hardly remember what it was I wanted to say in the first place. So expect a few, minor SPOILERS in this shorter review. Hopefully my next post won't be as half-assed. YOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Unless you've been living under a human-sized rock, you've undoubtedly heard that about a week ago now Marvel broke the Internet by releasing the first trailer for 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. And naturally, I've now seen this trailer close to a dozen times. So today I'm gonna give my thoughts on the aforementioned trailer! Reactions! Speculations! HOT TAKES! These are what await you beyond that "Read More" button, so click it today! Please?
*Fair warning: SPOILERS ahead for all MCU films up to this point - Thor: Ragnarok included!* |
